A Distinctive Canopy

Winning a Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) 'Steel Edge’ Award, the canopy for the Alberta Health Services Capital Health Centre was the face of an extensive, multi-million dollar building renovation and modernization. The final delivered canopy maintains the architectural intent, serving as the new face for a bustling public edifice. The project was delivered to the client on-time and on-budget.

The new canopy, with its substantial cantilever, required extensive finite element modelling, consideration of the existing structure and coordination with the structural steel supplier. This minimized site issues during erection, ensured proper fitment of components and optimized structural performance of the new canopy structure, all the while maintaining the structural rigidity required for the extensive amount of glazing utilized.
